I took a trip to the Squam Lake (where they filmed "On Golden Pond") Conservation Center in Holderness, NH and caught this guy waking up after a nap.

Nice shot, Paul. That's one way to get them being still!

I was less than 10 feet from him and shooting through glass. The animals at the Squam Lake Conservation Center are captive. At the River Otter exhibit you can also go down to a lower level and observe them swimming under water, again through glass.

The North American river otter can get to be fairly good sized. 1000mm to 1530mm long
(40" to 60")

I like the expression you caught in his face. He looks like he's thinking, "How can an otter get any sleep with all those dirty rotten tourists and their Canon cameras with those white lenses".

Wow!...they are quite big....That's another thing I like about this forum, not only do you learn about photography, you learn so much about other countries.
