Suppose it's you in these portraits and you need to pick which one to buy prints of.
Which do you prefer, A or B?
Try to confine your selection criteria to factors within the photographer's control, such as lighting, posing and composition. Ignore wardrobe and hair style.

B for me too. It seems more comfortable. Not their comfort but more relaxed. I dunno. Do you know what I mean? ;)

I'll take B also Sir
the subjects just pop out of the background
the woman's hand on his shoulder draws them together more

B but remove what apears to be dust on your lense out of the top of the pic. Or is that on my screen. LOL

Um, I like the first one.
The expressions are better, the head tilt is better, and I like the background in the first one.

Thanks to everyone who voted and commented.
Portrait A was taken by one of those nation-wide outfits that does church directories. They give you a free 8x10, and I think I got what I paid for.
Portrait B is a self-portrait with my 300D and a "Home Depot" lighting setup.
Though I'm biased, I agree with the majority that my photo is better. And while it's a bit of an ego boost to think that I can do a better job than a "pro," I will admit that the white balance isn't quite right (thankfully, I can fix that).
The spot on the background near the top is a stain on the, um, tablecloth. I knew it was there but didn't think it would be in the frame. I could photoshop that out, too.

I like the first one better for the expressions and the posture, but the lighting in the second makes it the superior picture.
Best regards,
Andy

B for me. But, I like closer shots and it seems more relaxed.

B - by far. In the first one, they look like they could be siblings, or two members of a realty agency, or the stars of a new hit show on the Family Channel. In the second shot there is warmth between them, and they are obviously close family, if not husband and wife.
As far as lighting goes, I think B wins there too. A has blown highlights on her face that are very distracting.

B
It looks more intimate and just nicer.
