Ok, I couldn't decide if this should go into the Sports forum or not.???
Is wrestling a sport?
Anyway, my friend's and I got free tickets to a WWE Wrestling event last nite.
I've never been, and I don't know much about any of the wrestlers, but I heard it can be alot of fun.
So, I went with my 20D, 135F2 and 1.4x extender in tow.
The kids behind us were really getting in to what was going on in the "squared circle"! When I was chimping, they were looking over my shoulder yelling "OH YEAH! HE GOT THAT!"
It was a lot of fun, and here is a not so brief picture summary of what went on....

(All pictures taken at 189mm F2.8 ISO3200)

"Uh, I wonder if I should get out of the way..."

For some reason I heard alot of people behind me screaming when I chimped this shot

Ummm, this guy looks big... and MAD!

But this LITLLE guy seems to be his downfall! I think that's Pekka behind the mask!

I TOLD YOU SHE WAS FAKING!

I'm not a wrestling fan AT ALL but that doesn't matter. Those are great shots. Crisp, clear, great colours...

WOW!! These shots are awesome. I am not a huge wrestling fan, but no matter what people say about it being fake and scripted and all that, these guys(and gals) still take a hell of a beating in that ring. The bald guy in the cage is Kurt Engle Right??? He is a former Olmpyian.

Great work Drisley!!

Hehe, thanks guys. Wow, just looking again I did post ALOT of pictures in one thread. Sorry about that.
But, yes, they are definately very athletic. I've posted pictures here before about fitness competitors/bodybuilders, and Torrie Wilson used to be one before joining the wrestling world.
She is VERY athletic, probably moreso than most of the men. It really is amazing what these "athletes" can do, especially some of the really big guys.

A great series of shots, Dris.

If we had a 'Drama' forum, that would have been the proper place to post them.

I used to be a wrestling fan, not anymore. But these are great shots drisley & great narration too ;) You always take great indoor shots !

Thanks Vetterography and Raj.
Although not a fan, I used to know who the wrestlers were like Hulk Hogan, and The Rock. But now I don't have a clue. I don't think the characters in wrestling are as colourful as they used to be.

WoW! Fantastic shots! I just called my 15 year old son in to have a look.. he rattled off the names of most of them. All very well known wrestlers apparently!

Skade, that is too funny!
That is about the age of the kids sitting behind me, who were screaming during the whole thing.
The rest of the pictures are HERE (http://www.fotop.net/sharpnsmart/wrestling)if he wants to have a look.

Ok he just had a look at them and is totally blown away by your shots! Some names he mentioned were.. "Ray Mysterio", "Big Show", "Edge", "Scottie too Hottie" (LMAO) "Kurt Angle". Thanks for that drisley.. its not very often the 15 year old "speaks". Lol. Well not to the mother anyway! (Teenagers!)

Sandi, I'm glad he liked them. Yes, those names all sound familiar now.
I love the name "Scottie Too Hottie"!
And yes, I know about the teenagers being quiet. My friend has a daughter who is 15 and she rarely talks to anyone but her close friends.

Unbelievable shots! And I'm not into wrestling, but the clarity and perfection in those pics makes me want to run out and get your gear so I can get shots like that LOL
Very Very professional, looks like something from a magazine and especially the one of the 2 guys in the cage and one of them is looking right at the lense....Intense.

Those are amazing shots, particularly given that you shot at 3200 ISO. Incredible job.

I can remember going to my grandfathers place and if there was wrestling on we had to endure through an hour of it. Choreogrpahy at its best.

Fantastic series of shots, Those are some mighty healthy looking gals there.   Not sure if I'd want to be in the ring with them.

Wow! Thanks Keiffer :o
You too sssim, thanks. Yes ISO3200, but I did use a little Noise Ninja because I didnt nail the exposures on all of them. The ones in the cage actually had great exposure, and the noise was very low, but I "Ninja'd" them anyway.
When I was a kid, I used to watch wrestling every now and then. I wonder why kids (and grandfathers) are so drawn to wrestling? I guess it's like "real-life" super heros.
Although, most of the wrestlers now are more "down to earth" and less "super" than they used to be.

Is wrestling a sport?
Yes.

But this ain't wrestling. Your photos prove, however, that it can be darned fine entertainment (#2 is my favorite).

The All-American entertainment. A visual cocktail of melodrama, sex, and violence. I'm surprised the WWF hasn't come up with a variation of #2 for swiping credit cards at featured events. LOL

Personal favorite: the clotheslining administered by the former fitness competitor.
An energy packed series of photos.
Well done.

Excellent shots as usual!! Colour, sharpness, and compostition are spot on.......not a wrestling fan but would love to be able to get shots of any sport with this quality. Truly professional!!

That shot with your Tokina 17mm is what made the other shots so impressive to me. Without that shot from your 17mm I would have guessed that you were quite a bit closer. Nice job. :D

Now that is the crudest, and perhaps funniest comment I've heard about that picture!

Thanks schmoelzel, I know for a fact you would probably get better shots!
