Average can be different... If you drop say... 4-7 grand then you'll have a best quality system for a "lifetime" whatever that is. :rolleyes: And the lenses will stay with you and they'll hold their value.

Or you can do consumer zooms, learn, discover their limitations... Upgrade... lose some money in the process... Know the difference between good/bad and why.

Whatever way you go, you'll make some mistakes or wanted you bought something else.

Usually there are different lens for every job, with different prices for different requirements.

If you tell us what you want to shoot and what subjects you're most interested in, then we'll give you a few options.

As a beginner, you probably want to shoot "everything" which is totally normal. So a cheap consumer zoom may be good for you, while you use it you'll discover if you like photography or not. Get a 50/1.8 and it'll give you a feel as to what quality glass is like optically...

then you'll discover the limitations of what you have and will buy accordingly.

Good luck

Macro,.

We don't have a -=TOP 10=- Macro section yet.. hmmm....

On the other hand all the macros are so good...
Pick any of these;
Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro
Sigma 105mm Macro
Sigma 150mm Macor
Tamron 90mm Macro..

all superb.
