I know the car in the background pretty much ruins the shot, but I'd still like you guys to have some fun with the image. Edit it any way you'd like :)

I want to see some real creativity :)

5 minute edit, pulled one of my processed background images i have filed for these occasions... I'd suggest you do the same, if you dont have any.

Clifford that's really nice ... I was going to try a background next but first ... a little home brew using existing backdrop ... and watercolor backdrop just for some change in texture

One last one with a different backdrop.

She would fit right in here in West Marin where the Dead and Airplane lived at one time. Clifford were you able to use channels to make a mask? I did it manually which is tedious but effective.

I used my image as the original. Selected moses' photo, and added as a layer to mine. Then added layer mask to that, and started trimming.

Clifford....Was the trimming done by just using the eraser tool ??

Cheers.

I tried to use a specific color channel to gain some separation in the subject but it was impossible so I made a mask manually.

I would press the "delete" button and try again.

Interestingly enough the subject is well lit which is why she transports to another background without a hint of retouch. Everything I did related to background.

C'mon now. Let's be adults here.

The point of this thread was to have fun with the picture...

And it's glarlingly obvious that the person was inserted into a different background in every shot I've seen where this was done. Without a hint of retouch? Riiiiiight.

Seriously man...you're killing the buzz here. How about you post elsewhere unless you're actually going to contribute to the topic here.

The solution to the problem is to be aware of the composition at the time of taking the shot - so that you don't have to attempt Photoshop trickery later, which wastes time. You asked how I would edit the photo - simply put I would not as it wouldn't meet my standards, and I would cull it and move on to something else. Seems to have answered your question - you may not like it or agree with it, but I still answered it.

I wasn't taking any glamour portraits here. It was a snapshot. I'll be more careful with my T1i and kit lens next time I decide to take a snapshot of my fiance. Sorry.

No, it was the paint brush set to black. Trimmed while layer mask was highlighted in the pallet.

Which is why you should try again.

You should just keep practicing taking natural shadows out of your rock photos.

I used an overprocessed photo of mine, combined with the OP's photo, and no retouch. Why is this so hard for you to take in?

You should just keep practicing taking natural shadows out of your rock photos. Maybe you could have recomposed that shot?

I did nothing to her in terms of tonal adjustments, that's what I meant by retouch. The photograph is obviously manipulated because that was what this thread was about. I had a great time working with the OP's image. I have no issues with manipulating photographs as long as something better comes of it.

What's with the bitterness and attitude?

If it's not stating the obvious... why didn't you just ask her to move to a better location a few yards away?

I agree that was a great surprise and I liked that she became a part of the scene. It really comes down to what's in your inventory and how you use it!

Thanks for the support guys :)

I haven't even tried any edits on this myself. I've got a ton of photos to work on from last night, but after those are done, I'll come up with something creative for the original photo here :)

Can you tell if I inserted the person without any retouching made (aside from some crude photochopping)? I think the light on her right forearm and torso makes perfect sense in terms of reflection off the rescue flare, and you may perhaps counter that there is too much light coming off the foreground; that's just my assistant holding the reflector that I now realize was too big for the job and I was wearing white jumpsuit.
