I received my BG-E7 for the 7D. I read the instructions, believe it or not, and attached it with power off on the camera and batteries out of the unit. Installed the batteries and receive no power to the camera. Repeated the process several times. Re-installed the the reg battery to make sure their was no issue with the camera. Camera fired up correctly. Suggestions?

Customer support and warranty are probably your best bets right now...

well Canon said to ship it to them and they will inspect it to see if it is their problem. Adorama is off on another holiday. So I guess it will go in the mail to Canon tomorrow. Bummer deal. Hope Canon doesn't try any grief over it.

You do have the grip turned on, right?

Camera should power on regardless of what the grip's switch is set to
that switch is only to enabble/disable the grip's buttons

Oh, I skipped reading that it wouldn't power on...

Hmmm. Have you tried it with AA batteries just to see what would happen?

Regular battery??? As opposed to aftermarket cheapo knock offs? If so, that may be your problem there. Did I miss something?

I think by that he means he put the battery back in the camera and it worked there, just not in the grip.

Did you try putting the battery in both sides of the grip? I get the feeling that if you only use one battery in a grip it has to be in a specific slot.

OP says batteries... I'm sure all slots were filled

That's it, a single battery in any side should work. Just make sure that the grip is fully pushed in place, no need to overtighten the thumb wheel not to risk any damage. If it persists you'll have to return. I understand your pain.

I have had a gripped camera since my Canon A1. I purchased new canon batteries and the batteries for my 5DMKii are the same. Tried all 5 reg Canon batteries including the AA-Tray with lithium batteries. Installed with camera off, with camera on, battery grip on and off in all configurations. Walked away repeated as necessary. Really bummed, first DOA piece of Canon I have received. Although my 10-22mm decided to seperate at the barrel sleeve one day. I princess my bag. No drops, dumps, etc. I am sure they will take care of it. It's either the 7D or the pack, either way they are both under a month old. Lets hope its just the grip. Did I miss anything?

I think it's because you read the instructions/manual. You're not supposed to do that.
