Hello
I am having a problem shooting subjects with a window directly behind them, subject normally well under exposed, has anyone any tips on shooting with a window directly behind the subject.

it takes a combination of a couple of things. Try messing around with Flash Exposure compensation on various positive settings. You can also fill the frame with your subject and lock the exposure (* button) then recompose.

You can also fill the frame with your subject and lock the exposure (* button) then recompose. Won't that only work for just one shot? Why not make a note of the exposure & set it in M mode?

Meter the light from the window and use fill flash.

How about using a large reflector to direct some of the available light back on to the subject?

Hello
So you can zoom right in, take a meter reading from their face, lock exposure, zoom back out recompose the shot and that would work?
Cheers, Karina

If you can get your hands on one their's a company called LiteDisc that makes these little portable fold-up reflectors, if not you can use anything that's reflective. I used to use one of those sun blockers that you put in your car windshield to keep the sun out of your car on a hot day, just be sure to buy one with a shiny silver side. Anyways you can try to bounce some of that bright window light back into your subjects face if you're looking to use a lot of natural light. If that not enough that you can meter for the window, so that it's not to blown out and pop a little fill flash into your subject. Best of luck
