Hey guys- this is my first post here.

I'm looking for a good shoulder bag for when I travel light that will carry a 5d, 24L, 50 1.4, and 135L. I already have a Crumpler 5mdh that will do the job for now, but I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions.

there is nothing better for 5D + 3 small lenses. The quality of that bag beats
everything, Domke, ThinkTank, whatever.

I'd say Domke actually, especially if you plan on working out of it.

I saw a Domke bag in a store last week and the zipper was broken.
No thanks. Quite a terrible quality overall. Not sure why they are popular...

Hmmm, well that sucks.

Mine's been solid as can be and you'll take my F2 when you pry it from cold lifeless fingers. ;-)

They are popular because they just work... and keep working. I think most people that don't like them, do so because they need to have lots of little compartments and padding to feel safe. People who like Domke generally do so, because the bag doesn't get in the way of a working photographer. It's infinitely configurable to work just the way you want to work, not the other way around. They also last forever and generally get better with age.

Anyways, off the soapbox.. you either like em or you hate em.

Well, real Domke's use a YKK zipper; if those are junk then more things than Domke camera bags have problems. I've got Domke bags going back close to 30 years still going strong. No nylon/cordura bags even come close for wear-resistance. I wouldn't base a QC assessment on one bag seen in one store.

OP - I'd say to look at the Domke F803 (if the 5D is ungripped) or the F3x (gripped or ungripped). Versatile, usable and easy to work from.

It may not be exactly what you were thinking about, but I have a Kata 3N1-10 (the smallest of the 3N1 line), and I think it's perfect for travel with a body and 2 or 3 lenses. You can configure it as a left- or right-handed sling for quick access, or as a backpack, if you plan on doing a lot of walking. The 3N1-20 gives you a little more room, and is still all-day luggable, the 3N1-30 is the pack mule of the bunch.

There are also a few video reviews of the 3N1 line out there, if you're so inclined.

Yea this is a funny one; most Domke bags measure their lifespan in decades. I'm sure it is possible but don't take that as typical of the brand. Working photographers everywhere have used them for a long, long, long time.
