I'm not sure if this is in the right section, if not i apologize.

there is a photographer in california, Adam Bouska, who has a series of photos that have caught my attention, it is less of a series and rather a photographic campaign of sorts. I like the message and the final result of said photographs and have been interested in doing the same style of photograph with myself and a few locals. I am wondering if i were to essentially reproduce the photo myself (as in get people and shoot the same general photo, NOT copy/paste/ print works by another photographer) if there would be any restrictions or other issues regarding legality that i would be in violation of.

If anybody has heard of the NO H8 campaign, all of the photos in the series represent a High Key white background, white shirt, duct-tape, and the "NO H8" text on the face One example of the idea I am looking to reproduce is HERE (http://www.advocate.com/uploadedImages/ADVOCATE/EDITORIAL/EXCLUSIVE_DETAIL/200904/NOH8_ADAMX555.jpg) you can also view other examples by clicking here (http://images.google.com/images?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=noh8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi)

Thanks guys and girls for the help.

If you're talking about photographing people on white backgrounds, that's not a problem.

If you're talking about photographing people with duct tape over their mouths and "NOH8" written on their cheeks, that would be a copyright violation.

You would be legally prohibited from publishing or distributing such images in any way. Of course, if you shot it and only showed it to close acquaintances, the original artist would never know.

The NO H8 campaign is amazing and Adam Bouska is simply an excellent photographer. If you would like to reproduce such work, then you may want to avoid having the words "NO H8" on the photograph.

I just watched this video tonight and just learned about the campaign. Watch it, you will love it.

Edit: Also know that copyright laws are not created so that people will have to make their own ideas and stuff, otherwise we would have a world in complete uniqueness. You can reproduce the same art produced in the NO H8 campaign for personal use, however, you cannot use them for profit.

As mentioned, I would avoid the use of "NO H8" in your images. Other than that, feel free to shoot away :)

You cannot copyright an idea or style. So you're perfectly within your legal right to produce the style as much as you want. But as said, you CANNOT use a copyrighted, or extremely strongly associated word or phrase (NO H8 for example) and profit from it.

Very nice video and message. I didn't expect it to be about what it was, but glad I got to see it. Love the photo idea. Good stuff.
