I've heard that you can't store seamless paper horizontal or it will get wrinkles.
I also see that almost every studio setup photo I see has the seamless on what looks like permanent installation rolls, which are horizontal.
So, does the paper only wrinkle if lying on the ground? Or does everyone take the paper off after a shoot? Because that seems extremely inconvenient.

IMO, seamless paper is quite inconvenient to use unless you have it in a permanent setup.

Seems to me that the paper would wrinkle if the roll were stored vertically because of the weight of the paper at the top pushing down on the part at the bottom when stored vertically. I could be wrong, though.

i don't think horizontal should have anything to do with anything at all.
that's just my opinion. i don't think it would wrinkle at all, unless you bent it or something. on the roll, it would not do that.

paper will not wrinkle when lying on the ground, however it is unadvisable to do so as if one person steps on the roll, the wrinkles will be permanently marked into the roll, and you cannot steam it out or get rid of it.
it is a pita to store if it isn't for a permanent setup

I' have several rolls of nine foot wide seamless paper that has been hanging since about 1995 and they are still wrinkle free.

I have read the same thing the OP has written about. Consequently, I have my 107" white seamless in a tube standing on end in my garage. My 53"'s are permanently mounted horizontally.
I too would be interested in the answer to the OP's question.

I'm planning on permanently attaching it to a bracket, and didn't want to have to store it vertically. I wonder why I've read so many accounts of horizontal storage causing wrinkles.
In any case, I think if some have been hanging for almost 15 years with no issues, I'll be fine to leave mine up.
Thanks!

:) I imagine it has to do with storing it horizontally while its on the ground or some other flat surface. I don't have much experience with rolls of seamless paper, but do with other things which are heavy and come in rolls (rolled roofing). Just like rolled roofing I imagine if you leave it stored laying on its side it'll have creases on each side of the roll all the way to the middle from the weight flattening the roll out. If its stored on like a pole or something won't be a problem because its weight won't be trying to flatten it out, same with if its stood up and stored vertically.

Storing vertically is the way to go when STORING the paper (no flat spots from settling on the ground....this just isn't an issue when storing vertically).
As long as you hang the paper horizontally, and the bottom isn't resting on anything, your paper should be just fine/wrinkle free.
