I was curious as to what the best resolution would be to set my monitor to when editing photos. The highest res. my monitor goes is 1280x 800 but I have mine at a little less -1152x720. Will this be a big deal/difference? Is more better for discerning details when editing? many thanks for this simple question.

yes, it will mess up sharpness big time. ALWAYS use a monitor at the optimal (usually max) resolution. In this case, 1280x800

Run your monitor(s) at native resolution.

Thanks guys. I noticed Immediately a huge difference. I cannot believe I have been using this lower res. for so long.

Quite a few applications and the OS can be set to use a bigger font and / or bigger icons ;)

Not sure about OSX (pretty sure it's the same, just different button), but windows allows you to dynamically increase icon/text size in folders and the desktop by ctrl+scroll wheel. And you can always use DPI adjustments so that 72pt font is always an inch tall ;)

OS X has a similar thing, but it does not change the font per se, rather it provides magnification. Its also in Universal Access if I'm not mistaken. On Webpages, Command + plus sign and Command + minus sign will font sizes. The images sizes also ncrease dynamically.
