I know i put it on shared photos but unsure if id get any critics over there ?

SO !

Here are my two shots from the races last Saturday !

This is my first outing with my Canon Digital Ixus V3 and i love it to bits ! Only just got into photography and Photoshop please see what you think to what i have done with one of my shots !

http://www.notinthebrochure.com/horses.htm

Just got started on playing with my digital camera and wanted to do sommit diff with it ! Did originally have the horses and jockeys as colour and everything else in BW but after knocking back the white house that much ( had to as smaller image and bad quality ! ) it looked kinda odd so i set it all to BW !

Comments Welcome ... Don't forget my first week with it !

Well I like the 1st shot best.

The white building is a face on paste that lacks the perspective that you get in the 1st shot.

The 1st shot is a little under-exposed. But even the best exposure will have trouble with the shadows at this particular time of day.

I would prefer a frontal view.. to see the faces.. and ideally from the other side without this intruding railing.
And I guess that what I really want to see is action. It does not come thru.

Sure. I know this is the best position that was available. Well no one said that great images came easdily.

Great Info, well appreciated but i think i will be getting a little bit better as i go on ! Or at least i hope i do anyhow ! I seem to find the more i do that i am thinking more about composition ( in most cases ) and what settings should be best used !

I just thought id play about with that image as it had a certain something to me, and well lets say it was one of the more in focus shots i managed to get !

Cheers for your opinion though :0)

Like it!
Has the feel of a surreal model village! Have you thought about reversing the white house to get the same lighting? You could also try altering its perspective by distorting it in your image editing program.

do you mean just get the whitehouse layer and negative image it ?

I was thinking you could reflect across the vertical axis so the left side became the right side - the lighting might look more realistic then. After that you could distort the image to get the perspective to match the race course
