Having bought a 400mm a month or so ago, I really had not had a chance to run it through its paces. As matter of fact I had been disappointed in the lens vs. my 300mm as I've only used it for shooting HS Football on Friday nights. I was just a couple more weeks from selling it as the 300MM was doing a much better job.

After these photos, I think I might keep it.....

1. Appalachian State (3 time National Champions in the past 4 years) vs NCCU. Devon Moore breaks straight up the middle with no one touching him for a 73 yard touchdown.

2. Devon's Second Touchdown.

3. Armanti Edwards scores on a quarterback keeper

4. These guys are the reason NCCU had only 5 yards rushing during the entire game.

300MM for Friday nights. it seems to focus quicker and is sharper on the dark fields of high school football.

Might sell the 400MM any way if I don't use it as often. I was just concerned about how few decent shots I was getting on Friday nights and thought there might be something wrong with the lens.

Nice stuff, I had the same timing on number 2 but managed to miss the focus. Were you the one in the multi colored rain gear and big hat? I had a really crappy game with tons of gear issues, I might post some up later though.

Yep, that was me...... Would love to see your shots as well. I see you are a student in your profile. Do you go to ASU?

Sorry to hear about the gear. I know the feeling. I had a 580 EX II smashed by a 260 lb linebacker the night before. Just hope yours wasn't that bad.

Yup I'm a student at ASU, shoot for the athletic dept and the school newspaper. Who are you shooting for?

I have a 20D that's about done....and it was really showing on Saturday. Plus my charger is where I stayed for the ECU game, so I was turning the camera off, taking out the battery, and warming it up every play (or flag, geeze) so I could get off a few more shots. It's about to be retired as a remote camera, haha.
