After taking Martin's advice on editing I tried it out on a shot I took of my daughter this afternoon.
I would love to hear comments

I just noticed that there is quite a bit of noise around her face after posting. The b/w file doesnt show that on the computer.......maybe its my monitor with internet colors.

I think it came out great.
I think the pose could be more natural and happy, but regarding the B&W conversion, it works fine.
If you are worried with the noise, you might want to try to use Neat Image, which is free (or has a free version).

LOL, that's just the nature of my 7yr old. She gets embarrassed very easily so she doesnt smile. Also, the best ones Im using for color right now.

I think the pic is good, about grain, did you reduce red channel to zero and put green to about 100%, if not you will get noise in the red channel, be interested if you did,

I did as you said with the red/green channels and it came out fine (not grainy). I think it just lost quality from compressing it down to a sub-100kb file. The full size looks much more crisp.

I also did what Martin suggested w/ the red & green, and I like the results a lot. But I also noticed that in many sites/tutorials they suggest about 75% red. Care to comment on that Martin. Your insight will be appreciated. Thanks.
Hope I'm not hijacking the thread.

By cutting down the red and increasing the green channel it tends to cut down on the amount of noise in the image, try it with an image both ways a you will see what i mean, let me no the result please

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
I'm a big B&W fan and been experimenting/learning about a lot lately.
Thanks again, and apologies to NF for hijacking his thread.

Follow up:
Found this piece of information that supports what Martin been saying (From Digital Outback Photo):
10.6 Noise Removal
The noise in digital files is most often in the red and blue color channel. This might not surprise as the images has only half the original information on red or blue compared to the green channel.
