I think you cut off too much of the boat in your photo, especially the oar.

i dig it, but the 1st lacks "drama" do me...just looks like he is sitting there since its at the end of his stroke, when is pulling on the ore' at the peak stress point with that framing/lighting linup would be phat...of course, you get what you can get, im just sayin' :)

There's a good shot somewhere in that last pic trying to get out... I think the filters have swamped it...

I do like the first shot though - but I'd crop a chunk off of the left so that the rower isn't dead central in the image.
