Hello Rob and welcome to the forum.
I think I would have like the image better if you had taken it from the road, across from those two buildings - using the trees on each side of the road as your foreground interest, whilst the road guides the viewers eye into the picture.
Its a good attempt, when you are looking through magazines or image books (or even on this site) with photos of landscapes, take note how they have been produced, where the photographer has stood, etc. Then when you are out shooting your own shots try to use the same type of vantage points and ideas. Its a good way to start.
Congratulations on the new 350D - hope to see more of your work posted here.
Regards

If the location is close by, you might shooting at earlier/later times of day to see what the differences would be. ;-)

Nice view - top end of Wendsleydale? If so, I lived close by until last Autumn - great place for pics Caslt eBolton, Aysgarth, Hardraw I could go on! Looks like you took it at middle of day - light is a bit harsh, would better later on. A polarizer might bring out the colours a bit more??

Very scenic area! I like the composition, but the time of day makes everything appear a bit flat. Try again closer to sunet, when the shadow angles are acute. The sky colour also changes, as long as it is not raining!

Polariser would also take away the washed out look i the clouds, judging by the angle of the shadows from the lam post (you appear to be shooting with the sun at close to 90 degs left of you).

I agree with all of you, I would have loved to have taken the shot from the road and at a different time of day but it was a family day out to Leyburn and this sort of thing does not go down to well with rest of troop. You are right about the sun possition. If I ever get a day to myself and it's sunny (what are the chances of that eh) i will go the 25 miles to this location an try a load more shots. It is stunning to see around there. It even would look good in the winter.
I will take a look at other posts and general landscapes, as i prefer to shoot motorcylces it a bit of fresh air in more ways than one. I will post another non bike shot soon that i did the first week i got the 350D.
Again thanks guys, great to have the encouragement.

Very well done! The sky looks good and blue on my screen, and clouds will always be white.
