Hi guys, we have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of our third child since Saturday, so what I have been doing last few days is taking a photo of the sunrise of the day of the birth, ( prob sounds corny, but anyway, that's just me!) Thing is, my little girl obv. likes her current "home" too much and doesn't want to come out yet !!!
So I have been waking up before sun up shooting sunrises to pre empt the big day! Anyhow, time to stop ranting, I was just explaining the "why" of the existance of the shot below. This was yesterday (Sunday), todays effort was boring in comparison, (no clouds whatsoever)
Who knows what tomorrow will bring, hopefully a nice sunrise followed by a little baby girl would do me just fine :D The day I don't go out will be the day she is born for sure.........problem for me is, I'm not really a morning person, and it's going to be a LOONG day the day she wants "out"!
Anyhow, let me know what you think of the shot, good or bad, it's the only way I'll improve.

Excellent idea and excellent picture IMHO.
Congrats on the new baby.
I wish I had a good camera 12 years ago to take better pics of my daughter as she grew up. Now we have three great daughters and the oldest is less than camera friendly (I get the hand covering her face as she comes off the field/court). Take as many as you can while they still like "hamming it up" for the camera.
Again, super idea...not "corny" to me at all.

You must post the actual Sunrise the day of the actual birth now, I will be checking back in to see! And you must post the first pic's of the other little sunshine to go along with it!

Let's hope that the day she pops out will look like the one above. This is fantastic. I love the green in the foreground water, even if it isn't real

An amazing meeting of textures, foot prints/swirling bluegreen water/flowing grays and purples of clouds. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, thanks everyone!
engsetr1: yes I definately will post the actual birthday sunrise. Mum will be induced on Friday if nothing beforehand, (it's Tuesday evening here ATM) so I need to be up taking shots every day until then just in case!. And yes, also one of our little bundle of stubborn goodness too!
Gary McDuffie: The water around here actually does have a nice green tinge to it, just not as dramatic as the HDR is showing. The whole coastline here is crystal clear at the moment.
Here is this mornings effort. Not a true HDR, just made up from 1 Raw. The sky was relatively boring again so I improvised by placing the camera on the sand as close as I was game to the waterline.
It isn't the sort of shot I would choose as a " newborn baby sunrise" as it isn't gracefull by any means, but given mum has been having contractions for the last 3 days straight, she thinks it is fitting, she feels like an angry ocean at the moment! In fact she is having contractions as I write this and have to stop to rub her lower back! So close, but yet still a long way to go!
The forecast is for fine weather all week. If anyone can throw some pointers to maybe make a "boring" sunrise sky more interesting, I would appreciate any pointers. Foreground tips, using headlands (we have plenty) angles etc. I'd really like to nail the actual day.

Wow..that's a mean looking shot. I like it. I would suggest better DOF though, to get rid of the OOF in the foreground. It is a bit overpowering. I know, hard to do. :) Nice job anyway. My mention of the green color possibly not being real was not questioning it, just saying I really like it there, even if it weren't real. Real or not, I like it.

Nice sunrise; for seascapes I like long exposures. If you have a ND filter anywhere from a three stop to nine or ten stop you could get you could get some nice soft water?

Well everyone, some good news! We have a beautiful daughter born 10:36 this morning (about 13 hours ago) "Bad" news is, (not that it's bad as such) I was doing the race to the hospital exactly at the time of the sunrise this morning........(I think there is some irony in that ;)) I then thought I'd go and do a sunset shot instead as there was a spot at the hospital that would have worked out well, but time got away from me and it just didn't happen. Never mind, I am so happy that both mum and baby are doing exceptionally well.
Btw, thanks for the tips on the last sunrise photo Gary and camerabuff. I have never really been a pre-sunrise guy, but I bet I will be for the next few months/years again, so I'm sure I'll be able to practice getting up super early from now on!
I just have to post a shot of her here, even though it's not HDR. She is about 3 or so hours old in the picture. It's her very first photo shoot, first of many thousands I am sure I will be taking!
Now, I'm off to the baby section on POTN to get some tips

The shots are beautiful, and your daughter is too. You know you really knew that your daughter was going to be born that early, and you were practicing waking up. :)
