I have always shot exclusively on M-mode, but recently decided that I'd spend some time in Av, just so that I'd have a more informed opinion about it. Can anyone tell me, does the 10D switch automatically to evaluative metering in Av? My main subjects exposures all seem to be a little dark. while the background looks good. Is it possible to make it stay in partial metering while in Av?

thanks,
daniel

... ooops, the exif definitely indicates that the camera stayed in Partial metering. I guess it was just the lousy photographer. :)

I don't know about the 10D, never had one, but the 20D lets you select partial or evaluative metering. You have to select which metering mode you want though, best to read your manual to learn how to do that.

Yeah, I know how to select the metering. When shooting manual, I almost always shoot in partial metering, but I was getting about 1/2-1 stop under-exposure today as I was playing with using Av mode. It could have been several factors, including the slightly backlit lake I was shooting against.
