I always like to warn everyone that I'm new to digital photography.
I have a new scandisk Ultra 1GB CF card that I formatted IN CAMERA. I took some pics, that luckily, weren't important. When I played them back the camera it said there were no images and then the LCD started flashing CF ERR. I put the CF in my card reader to view in DPP...nada. So, I tried to reformatt the CF and now the LCD monitor is stuck/frozen on the format screen, it says busy. If I turn the camera off, it still says format busy...stuck frozen won't do anything... All my equipment is new(two weeks).

How do you format in the reader/computer? I'm asking because I hope I didn't somehow inadvertantly do this...

Anyone know what the deal is???

I was gone for awile...
Sorry, it's a 20D. It just completely froze up on me. I did try the card reader.
I don't know what happened to my pics, oh well, luckily they were't important.
Taking the batteries out DID solve the problem... thanks

Why don't you start all over with a clean slate?

Put the CF card in your card reader and do a Scandisk and then complete format. If there is any discrepancy between the expected capacity and the formatted capacity (outside of what is used by the format), then there may be a problem with the card. Once you know it is clean and formatted there, then transfer the card to the camera and do the format there. Now, how does it work for shooting and storing?

I would second Bob's suggestion. I looked at my CF card from my 20D. The card is formatted as FAT (not FAT32 or NTFS). The label is EOS_DIGITAL. I would try formatting the card in the reader as a FAT volume and manually name it EOS_DIGITAL. Then I would reformat it in the camera.

Taking the battery out seemed to solve the problem. Everything seems to be working fine again as far as taking and storing pictures. Bob and Skip, I hate to annoy you w/ my ignorance, but I'm new to digital, and I have NO idea how to do performs the tasks mentioned above. I know how to format the card in my camera but not in my computer..yet. I have a Mac so I don't know if it's different...When my card is in the reader, I don't see any options for formatting. What do you mean by do a Scandisk? What is FAT? How do I do all this???
