ok guys, well, i first got into photography with my little bitty A530. it was a dandy little camera that did its job for well over two years. then i got a nice little birthday present, which was the XTi, so the little A530 went on a shelf. well, now the time has come that i dont want to always carry around the A530, like parties, school, and other likewise activities. so i find my A530, and i turn it on, and it works! not quite... the LCD works fine, with the canon logo appearing, and it'll take pictures, and record audio, but nothing visual. when i put it in video mode, only sound gets recorded, and the visuals are just black, and pictures are black. the LCD works fine, and i can review older pictures on it, but whats the deal? i LOVED this camera, and really want it working again. is it possible? or has it bit the dust?
thanks in advance.

The shutter (iris) may be stuck closed from a lack of use. If that is the case it will not allow any light through and the screen will appear black. Can you take a flashlight and shine it in to the lens while you press the button to take a picture and see if the iris opens? If it does not open briefly and close it is stuck closed. Good luck!!

thanks guys. i just went out of town, and left the camera at home, but when i get back, i'll definately give it a try. i really liked this camera, and i'll do close to anything to save it. lol
and how would i go about "reset all" ?

ok, im back in town. i did the flash light experiment, and i did see the shutter open, and close. so thats not the issue. i also put in new batteries, and that didnt do the trick either. so how would i go about "resetting all"?
EDIT: just found out how to do it, and i tried it. didnt work either. so, is all hope lost?

It doesn't sound quite like the issue described in the Service Notice stickied here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=238911), but you might want to give that a try - call Canon and say you might have the problem described there. They'll send you a mailer for the camera, you send it in and they'll either fix it free, if that is the problem, or tell you how much it'll cost to repair anything else.
