Having grown up with Sheppards, I am well aware that their bite is worse than their bark. Nice shot.

thats awesome! only thing that would make that better is if the guys in the background had a more serous stance/pose/expression to them. either way tho its still an awesome shot!

One question. How come you don't have your head/face protected? Do the dogs just NEVER bite that area? That seems to be the extremely dangerous part to me.

well... good question...
to answer that. The way these dogs are trained they will not go for the face and the fact that the dog might get his/hers teeth stuck or broken in the helmet(if we are takinga bout a open face helmet with a grate on it.
Yes i do realize that it is just an animal and animals do wierd ass things....neither of the guys who do bite work that i've wroked with wear headware, i trust the trainer that i'm working with. If he does it without the helmet on the same dogs, i'm not worried.
To get the dog going, there was another trainer behind me getting the dogs eyeline to try to match where i was. Thes dogs as u seen in the video... on and off via command.

Love the shot! I have a shepherd of my own so I'm definitely a fan heh. He sort of looks like mine too.

Wow, great shot! The one holding the dog almost appears to have a smirk on his face as well. Pretty cool.

thats how you train the dog flo, i know it might seem cruel but i assure you, the trainers that i know would not hurt the animal on purpouse or for fun. We are talking about some serious dogs that have to obey so someone like me doesnt get their face eaten. A protection dog cant just attack anyone so they have to listen and have to be trained weekley so they retain the info. Accidents have to be minimized.
I will do some more photos soon...

Yes, while the mere act of kicking a dog can be a turnoff to most, I too can assure you that these guys love these dogs and are merely enforcing their necessary dominance over the dog. That was more a love tap to show who's boss.
BTW, I saw the bruises obviously. How much did it hurt? Did it feel like something just squeezing you hard? Hope you don't mind me asking this on the thread. If you do just say so and I'll stop.
Thanks,
mark

no its all good ask all you need.
I have a pretty good pain threshold but it did hurt a bit, it was uncomfortable pain not "OMG get that dog off me pain".
I hear that it does hurt a bit when they get your elbow, i was lucky that it didnt go for it(some of the dogs know that the suit is a play toy so they will try to work around it and play dirty..lol).. but one of these GS's can shatter your bones if it bites a certain way...elbow or even kneecap.
The suit protects but bites still go through as u saw. They actually let me play with the less agressive dogs as it was my first time but even from working with these guys i can tell that having the more agressive dogs woudlnt be an issue for me. The bite will no doubt be harde and hurt a bit more but still not that bad in one of those suits. I hear that the smaller sleeves hurt more(those sleeves are for films so it looks like the actor/stunt performer isnt wearing one).
Obviously a bite that goes through will bruise your arm for a few days..hehehe, just blame it on your significant other if anyone asks..lol.

Nice shot! I'm glad I'm not on the wrong end of that dog. A co-worker got a Schutzhund 3 (SchH3) dog about a month ago from Europe.

Cool shot!
Our oldest male was trained by the trainer that worked most of our county sheriff GSD's and several of the surrounding city police department GSD's. He was fairly aggressive so he needed the strict training. He's a lovable family dog but would die to protect us. Especially our kids. It's also great to be able to talk to him in multiple languages. It keeps people in the dark as to what we are saying to him most of the time and the use of hand signals pretty much trips everyone out too. Our newest female doesn't have the same training as the trainer is now retired. The difference in obedience is amazing. She's pretty laid back so it's not a big deal but hopefully she'll get there some day too.
Jon.
