Great capture, Scott. How long did you wait to get one actually catching a fish?

I actually was at the beach to capture surfers since most of the birds I had been shooting moved on to Canada. My wife called out to me that a gull was diving for fish and I swung around and caught it. I was using a 1DM2, Canon 100-400 IS L, B&W 77mm CPL, Manual Metering: the light blue sky +1 stop, AI Servo AF, CFn.4-1
Thanks!

Luck. Skill. Whatever... a mix of the two. The result is the same; an excellent shot.

You can be "lucky" in being in the right place at the right time, and still not come away with anything. It takes skill, timing, understanding the equipment and environment (to set the gear up correctly) so as to take advantage of the "luck" which may come.

I've been many times "lucky" and missed the shot because I don't understand the gear as well as I should just yet.

Don't discount your skill and knowledge.

Excellent shot, and thanks for sharing.

Best-
Noni

Thank you all for your comments.
Noni, I'm going to save those words for the next time I come home empty handed! You're very kind.
I got alot of experience last summer shooting RC Planes. I guess that helped.
