Ok, it's official, I'm in love with timelapse. It gives me the same feelings I get when I shoot real film and don't get to see what I have until later which is like a micro Christmas with micro reindeer and tiny little cookies for a tiny little fictitious character named Santa.. love it.
The part of the story that I was not very fond of was the part that I leave my house at near sea level and think, "ahh, it won't be that cold.." and proceed to put on a pair of Chuck Taylors, jeans, t-shirt and light jacket.. Holy freezer nuts frosty, it was DAMN cold.. Although the thermometer in my car could have been wrong when it swore it was 44deg.. I know, you guys are going to kill me for this " 44 ?, that's nothing " but at 9000 ft the combination of thin air and Hawaiian blood caused me to spend most of the 2 hours it took to capture this in the fetal position, or with the car running every 10 mins..
Anyhow, I ordered the Milapse head, ( thanks guys ), and figured I might as well get a little better at regular stationary shots in the meantime..
I was thinking of trying a shot with a studio strobe that goes off with every shot.. Has anyone tried this yet ?

You went up Heleakala I presume? You don't mention anywhere where you are.
I wonder how many other places on earth there are where you can go from sea level to 9,000 ft. in the span of an hour or two by car.
I spent several months on Maui but didn't get the chance to go up there. Wish I could have.

I don't know how many times I have seen it now, but it is so beautiful that it almost hurts.
Great view from up there.

oh, I know, the Big Island is even stranger.. during the winter you could be surfing in the morning at 85deg and snowboarding and hour later on Mauna Kea.. love this place...
PS: yes, I am a mile or so from the summit..

very simple actually. Most likely the same in most video editing programs.. In Premiere CS4 go to "import" get to the folder with all your images. Select the first one, make sure the box that says "import as image sequence" is checked and hit "open", in premiere it will show up as 1 movie file ready for editing !
You can also do this with Quicktime pro.. Import > Image Sequence > select 1st image, hit "ok" you can then "save as" whatever movie type you like..
Hope this helps..
Love and aloha, Kalani-

Just as a note. This is true for Quicktime Pro 7, not true for the new Quicktime X (10)

Does the 50D or new 7D do time lapse?

No canon SLR does it by default. but if you get something like the TC-80N3 it will work perfectly.

Too bad that it is a bit expensive, and that the extension cable seems to be made of pure gold :(

Oh very very true.
I wound up buying just the remote because I didn't need a long extension cable. But it does get the job done perfectly every single time. Can't complain too much.

You can also buy a chinese knock-off of the TC-80N3 that works just as well for around $35 - just search TC-80N3 on eBay, you'll find a ton of them. Its not like a lens - the act of sending simple intermittent signals to the camera to fire is not a high-tech thing, and Canon's original is way overpriced for the purpose imho.

1296 shots for 5 seconds each..
So you shot this as a series of still photos, rather than using any video function of the 5DMkII?
The time between each shot was 5 seconds, and you used each shot for a single video frame at 30 fps? That would be increasing the speed of the action by x150.

This is true.. I shot single small jpegs and they play back as a 30fps video.. That's why you need a ton of them ..
