View Full Version : Two Simple Questions…

Ok, I’ve been around here for a bit (and have searched for these answers), but I’m stumped. Or stupid :p, take your pick.

Links: Sometimes when I want to post a link in a thread, and change the name of the actual link to something else – it doesn’t work. I’m forced to post the full link in either simple or advanced edit.

Example:

Go to the CNN home page here: (where I would have linked “here” to be the link), and I have to post this: http://www.cnn.com/

When what I want is:

Go to the CNN home page here (http://www.cnn.com):

Is just certain threads that don’t allow you to change the name of the link, or do I have problem with FireFox perhaps?

Quoting Images: Sometimes a person will post several images, and I’d like to quote them (specifically by displaying one of their posted images in my post so that I can make a compliment, or ask them a question), but the system won’t let me. Is this because they have Image Editing turned off?

Thanks in advance!

Taking the second (easier) one first. If you quote a person's post you'll see any images that are embedded (hosted elsewhere, wrapped in the tags. If they attached the images (which will then be hosted here), they won't show up in your quote.

Links should always work the same. You may be having a problem with your browser's cache getting over-full or corrupted. In any event, if you type in http://www.cnn.com, and later want to change that to CNN (http://www.cnn.com), just edit your post so:
http://www.cnn.com
becomes
CNN (http://www.cnn.com)

If you don't see the vBcode tags, click on the http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/editor/switchmode.gif "WYSIWYG toggle".

Here's how I do the links...

I type the text that I want to be the link for the text -=CLICK HERE=-

Then I highlight the text, and then hit the "insert Link" button and paste the URL into the box that pops up. Hit "Ok" and you're set.

Thanks also Pete - I've been doing it the other way round ;)
