I currently have 2 pocketwizards plus 2. 430ex, and another 430ex I'm picking up this evening. And a AB400. I was thinking, I might want to get a wireless setup that does ETTL for my canon 430ex's for off camera flash. The mini pocket wizard tt1 does ettl correct? Would I need to replace all of my plus 2 PW's? Or, just get the mini tt1 to go on my camera hotshoe then it will trigger the canon ettl through the plus 2? I feel like I'm not understanding the set up here. Should I sell my two plus 2 PW's and go with another system that does ettl? If so which one? But then again, if I use my 430ex with some modifier like a BD or a umbrella isnt that going to block my ETTL signal to the subject?

The TT1 is just a transmitters. You would also need to get a TT5 for each EX flash that you want to operate in ETTL mode. You can still use the Plus II units with the non-ETTL flashes and strobes (of course, they'll still need to be set manually since they can't do ETTL).

Since the PW units use RF to communicate with each other, there is no worry about the ETTL signals being blocked by a BD, an umbrella or any other modifier.

Thanks for the reply. But lets just say I use both EX's on subject one main one fill. How will any of the two EX's know how much to through out if the sensor is being blocked to the subject by the modifier? Or it doesn't work that way?

ETTL exposure is determined by the camera based on the preflash light being reflected back to it. The flash itself plays no role in determining the exposure other than firing a preflash when required by the camera.
