Follow the instructions to the letter. They say "no lens" so it is "no lens". This must be due possible power drain by IS or USM.

According to the instructions, if you don't have the necessary equipment (that includes a CF card reader), you should contact your nearest Canon service facility.
A card reader costs $20 bucks.

5 mins round trip on the 350D
Thanks Rob! :)
Haven't personally experienced the 3 problems listed in the fix myself but it's a piece of cake to do so what the hell!

Uploaded the new firmware to my previously perfect 1D2, and now it has the screen freeze problem. My advice to those with perfect 1D2s is to hold off on the upgrade now, it has no benefit for you and may cause your camera to start acting up.

? What is the screen freeze problem? I updated my 1DM2 and fortunately it works fine.

Mine occured when using the display function while the camera was still writing to card. This has been an issue with some cameras, but not mine previously. I plan to do some more experimenting on the weekend to find out if it is repeatable. By the way, the upgrades after v 1.1.0 are really only applicable if you use Lexar cards, which have had some compatibility problems. I should have steered clear given I use sandisk, but didn't :( My advice, don't upgrade from v 1.1.0 unless you have a problem already.

I could produce a screen freeze with latest 1D Mark II firmware when
a) there was number of photos on card I had not yet viewed and
b) I browsed them VERY fast
Camera was not writing on card. Once I got striped B/W image (like a bad TV), total freeze. Second time I got a nice animation from gray to white and I got out of it by pressing DISPLAY button. Perhaps the first freeze could also have been cured by pressing DISPLAY. After the images are viewed once (buffered) I could not repeat it.
I'll have to keep an eye which card I was using (I have both slots in use, using Sandisk Extreme II).
