View Full Version : Pix won't download

I had no problems downloading my A95 pix via Zoom Browser until I needed extra memory and a pal installed an extra internal and external drive.
Suddenly I found I couldn't download any pictures - the notice kept coming up No Camera Found.
Because we were having other probs of drive recognition, he reinstalled Windows 98 and all the Canon software including Zoom Browser.
Everything is now working perfectly except still Zoom Browser won't recognise the camera, so I have stacks of pix stored up on memory cards.
I am non-technical but my pal isn't.
So any suggestions about where we go from here would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe somebody else has had similar problems? How were they solved?
Many thanks

I am no expert but, have you tried downloading from the camera with the external drive disconnected? In case it is a conflict over drive letters.

Are you able to download straight into a different program? PSP, PSE for example

If nothing else works try a card reader for under £10 - not ideal but at least you can get all your photos onto the PC:)

Good news and bad news Trefor.
I did what you suggested and disconnected the external drive.
When I plugged in a switched on the camera, no little panel came up for me to click on Canon Camera as used to happen.
But I went into Zoom Browser and clicked on camera download and miracle ! I was able to download some pics.
But when I tried again later with another memory card full of pics in the camera and did the same procedure the little box came up saying No Camera Connected.
I really cant figure why it should work sometimes and not others.
In answer to your other question, I dont know what PSP etc means but if it;s another pictuyre prog, I have tried to download via Microsoft Picture Editor or some such name but that doesn't work either.
I have Photoshop but you cant download from a camera with that can you?
Looks like I'll have to take your advice and buy a card reader.
Thanks so much Trefor - at least it worked once!
I am grateful for you taking the trouble to reply.

My A95 works as CF card reader. you don't really need to buy a new one. I download pictures from it using windows explorer, rarely use zoom browser. You said you're using windows 95, how about considering an upgrade to windows XP, works much much better.

A few more things have happened - ie I have now managed to download all the pics from several cards.( It's now nearly 4 in the morning here!) Sometimes the software recognises the camera and sometimes not.
I have noticed that it sometimes works when I fiddle with the USB socket lead on the camera.
Currently it's not working at all so I suspect a lot of my trouble has been a bad connection! I guess if the socket or plug is shot I need to send the camera back or forget the socket and use a card reader.
I'm pretty non technical so don't quite understand what you mean about downloading pictures using Explorer - could you explain how that works. I take it I would use the same socket and lead into the PC? So I guess this might be problematical. Might I be best getting that cheap card reader?
I am really grateful for all your help.

I didn't install the softwares that came with my A95 on my PC. Here's what I do when downloading the pictures:

1. connect camera to PC. Turn camera on. switch camera to playback mode.
2. right click my computer, select "Explore"
3. On the left column, there will be a "Canon Powershot A95". I click on it and my pictures will be displayed on the right.

by the way, I use Windows XP. I'm not sure if this works with other versions on windows.

I don't think Win 98 will recognize the camera it needs a twain driver to recognize it. Have you try to uninstall the twain driver and reinstalling it. Go to your control panel with the camera connected and power on. In control panel you should see a icon for camera and scanner or something like that, I haven't used 98 for awhile so don't remember all the icons. In camera scanner see if it recognized your camera or at least list it. If not then the twain driver is not installed properly. The easiest solution is to get a card reader its cheaper and saves on batteries. You can also have your friend check the device manager it should list it there too.

I have the same problem. I have read the intructions over and over again. My new Canon Ixus 700 does not download the pictures from the memeory card and on to my computer. I have Windows XP and my Dell Latitude D 600 seems to recognize the camera and make a connection but it stalls. I have reinstalled CameraWindow and all the other software, I have tried via the ZoomBrowser and also via Windows. There seems to be a conflict somewhere. I have also tried to turn off my virusprogram. Anyone who have solved this kind of a problem?

Harald1958 - maybe somebody can come up with a solution for you - I hope so.
For myself I want to thank everybody who has contributed on this thread - I've learned a lot.
Ironically the big problem I had may have been simple - a faulty USB cable from PC to camera.
My pal bought me a new super-dooper one, we plugged it in and immediately the camera was recognised and everything has been hunky-dory since!
But you've been so helpful I have another question - about Zoom Browser - but I'll put it in another thread....
Thanks again
