I tried to scale these down even more so they are not as big. I got my 3 year old to pose for me for a few mintues today so I could get some practice in. She's such a ham. :-) All were done with the nifty-fifty and most got the same PS treatment. I'm on a spending freeze and probably will be for some time, eventually though I will get some sort of background/hair lighting...I hope.

There's no way I can vote - they are ALL so good. You must be very proud of her - and she's a natural in front of the camera!

#4 gets my vote. What a model! I wish I had her around to practice with. I have to mostly make do with my dogs and 2 yr old grandson. I have a lot of shots of the back of the head of him. LOL

GREAT! Are these taken with just one large softbox?

4 and 8.
I like 4 because it's very cute...whereas 8 has a quality in her eyes that isn't present when she's "posing." If that makes the least bit of sense...
All good composition, and the lighting you used was very nice. How did you do that? I'd be curious to know. Thanks in advance
Best-

They're all cute. It was tough picking just one, but I finally went for #8. It was the most natural, and seemed less contrived.

Thanks for all the comments. You know, I get the back of the head syndrome quite a bit as well...it's getting better though, lol. This was a pretty simple setup. I just have the one light source, the large softbox (just look for a post by me about my softbox, I got pictures).
So basically have have my large softbox on the right side at about a 45 degree angle from me. I have one of those round reflectors (I wish I had one of those tall collapsible rectangular ones) that I have on the opposite side to help not make the shadows quite so dark. I'm using a black felt backdrop my wife got for me at a fabric store (it's all I have for a background). It shows up some until I add some photoshop tweaks. This is where the photo really starts to take shape. In PS, I tweak it a bit by adding some extra layers of the same image but with different blending types. I think I posted that somewhere around here a while back ago. For allot of images, it really seems to make it pop out, works best for these kind of portrait shots where there is more predominate features.
