Somewhere recently I heard there were 16 (or was it 18?) covered bridges in California. I've been to the Bridgeport one, west of Grass Valley, which by the way is the longest single-span covered bridge in the country. I'd also heard about one in Knights Ferry, and finally got around to looking for (and finding) it a couple weeks ago.

I also found some old building ruins next to the bridge. I wasn't expecting that. This is what is left of an old mill:

This being "Gold Country", I assumed it was a stamp mill, but I found some signs near it that said it was the remains of a flour mill.

One more shot of the mill ruins and foundation. You can see the bridge in the background, behind the trees:

Nice shots Lonnie, Gee I always thought New England and Ohio had the most covered bridges. Never even thought about California. Are those up in snow country?

The two I've been to are in the foothills of the Western Sierra Nevadas. They can see snow, but it's pretty rare.

LOL... I'm trying to see everything there is in the state. I wonder how much longer it will take me...
