Possible 1D Mark IV announcement in 5 days, that's the popular rumour around right now.

How about putting the same AF in the 1D/5D as Nikon does with the D3/D700/D300?

I have to agree here, it does have some nice features though.

I'm extremely surprised/disappointed that it only has 720p, without 50+FPS. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mark IVs have 60p for 1080.

And Noink users probably feel the same way about Canon's professional bodies.

Let's not get carried away with the fanboy bashing. I'm sure the high-ISO performance/AF on that thing is fantastic, and that's what it's mainly about.

Italian design is a hit or miss for me; Ferrari's a hit, most other stuff a miss.

I'm talking about aesthetics.

As in, some products look beautiful, others look butt ugly. I'm sure Lamborghinis are nice, but I like the look of Ferraris a lot more.

DPreview has the sensor size as 36 x 24mm, or FF. So no, it's not a crop.

It has a 1.0x (FF) and 1.5x crop mode.. and I guess they introduced a new 1.2x crop mode in this body

Makes it about the same "crop factor" and megapixel count as a Canon 1D MKIIN.

Looking at Nikon, they usually have a "cop mode" to increase FPS...
Like the D3, I don't believe you can achieve 11 fps at FF, it needs to be on "crop mode"

i like it, having used a d3 last year for 10 days and a d700 this year on and off occasionally i really like the ergs of nikon, i just dont like the double button feature like the 1d2n, i think that can limit you in certain situations but overall i think nikon is great, the screen on the d700 is amazing, having said that i still prefer the images the canon produces

I agree with you on the build quality part of Nikon bodies. IQ, well, I think D700 provides clean images at high ISO than 5D MII does. I almost will switch to Nikon after I tried D700 for 5 days, but got 5D MII instead somehow...

I think it's hideous, too. I also think the new Leica X1 is so ugly, it's embarrassing. I'm not bashing the brands, just would like to be proud of the appearance of my tools. I have no doubt the new Noink is a terrific camera and a real challenge to Canon, but it's looks alone would prevent me from purchasing one.

Most likely to tempt more Canon users to Nikon. The 1.2 is pretty close to 1.3

If that's true, then that's pretty lame.

I think most Nikon users are decidedly underwhelmed by how moderate the improvements to the D3 were. They took a two year old body, added 720p video and improved the ISO (when that wasn't a failing of the D3). But, the main complaint (only 12.1 MP) was left unchanged. And this is on the eve of an impending new 1D that promises to be a major new release.

Well, yeah. I'm seeing this as more of a "hey, lookit, my second D3 will be cheaper than I had budgeted for" type release. There's nothing this does that I really care about that my D3 doesn't already do.

I think Nikonians are pretty happy about the 12mp sensor. I don't think current D3 owners will be racing out to replace their current cameras, but it might tempt a few D300/700 owners to step up.
From what I've been reading on Nikon forums though, the rest of the spec is indeed being perceived a underwhelming.
But then, that's what Nikon does with it's "S" models.

I think the desire for the D3s level body is to maintain the frame rate and ISO sensitivity of the D3 while improving the resolution at least a little for a bit better cropability. The D3x gets you the rez, but slows you down more than you want for sports or wildlife. But, I'm sure the improvements that are there will be appreciated, and the D4 will likley get more rez next year.

How about putting the same AF in the 1D/5D as Nikon does with the D3/D700/D300?
Because the 5D line isn't the same as the nikon d700. The Canon 3D would be a camera to get the 1-series AF. And as I've read elsewhere, nikon probably has less R&D budget to design different AF systems so they re-use AF systems from the d3 in the d300, d700, and d3x.
Most likely to tempt more Canon users to Nikon. The 1.2 is pretty close to 1.3

And I'm sure you know Canon's 1D sensor is really 1.25x, right? People say 1.3 for brevity I guess.

Main complaint, I believe you are wrong. The D3s was tweaked as to what Nikon NPS told them. The 12mp is just fine. It's not about MP's, it's about IQ.

Indeed, though i fall in the middle

I find the Nikon F3 to be one of the best looking cameras ever made, I also have a soft spot for the F4...

The F5 doesn't float my boat, the F100 did

For modern cameras, I prefer the look of the xxD to the D90, and I prefer the 7D to the D300s, I personally feel Nikon's new look is too "cluttered" I guess...it looks too film-era to be a digital SLR to me...

I love the look of the Nikon tele lenses, especially the 70-200 VR and 300 f/2.8 VR [Sorry i have a thing for black] but the shorter Canons and the Canon primes float my boat more, personally i find the 24 f/1.4L II and the 85mm f/1.2L to be incredibly sexy, and I think Canon's 24-70 f/2.8L is better looking...but Nikon's 14-24 is a thing of beauty as well...

Ergonomics, I really and honestly am a switch..i can shoot either equally well, And I can even shoot Sony easily with a few seconds of transition...

So you've decided that Nikon are no longer a competitor to Canon, despite the 2 of them pretty much carving up the DSLR market between them.

Just so we're clear, that's what you're saying?
