I've been playing with photomatix for the past couple days and I don't feel that I'm doing very well. What do you think?

What lens are you using? Looks like you might be traveling in the right direstion as far as processing, but there are some funking purple colors showing on the edges and the house brick color seems to be off.

look a little oversaturated and in a lot of your shots the horizon is tilted. not a big deal but you'll find a lot of forum dwellers will mention this.

It's just the 18-55 kit lens on for my D40. Thanks for the tips, these gray and purple tints are hackin me off little bit. Here are some I've done today, the one with the cars in it is very weird looking to me.

I'm far from an expert, but I see some of the same ghosting problems in the tips of the foliage that I have seen in my shots. Kelby (http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Photoshop-Book-Digital-Photographers/dp/0321580095/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255607748&sr=8-4) recommends using Photoshop to combine the images, saving the file as a 32 bit .hdr and then using Photomatix for the tone mapping. I like the ease of use of Photomatix when combining images (especially the batching function), but when there is any movement between shots (like foliage), PS seems to do a far better job. I also find that PS does a better job of aligning shots not taken on a tripod - the PS generated images appear to be sharper.

Is there a bunch of CA up there in the leaves? As mentioned, severe rotational problems.

Get a shot that you really care about and work on it.
Photomatix is not easy.
And once you get something good out of Photomatix,
you still need to process in Photoshop.
It helps to have an inspiring shot that you really want to make great.

Thanks for the tips. I'll come back with something that will be a bit more serious on my side.

Man, HDR is not doing your jeep in any favors! It looks like crap, showing every dent, scratch, etc.. lol

Well, Nothing to add technically, except: remember the High before the DR, but register the product and lose the watermark. Am...

What ISO was used for the exposures? Quite a bit of noise in these. I suspect it wasn't intentional.
I like #2.

HDR's can create a lot of noise, it's not necessarily the ISO.

Thanks, I might add I still have no idea what I'm doing , but I usually set the camera to auto ISO and the data for the first pic for iso was 200. It probably was from me playing around with the settings though. I'm using Qtpfsgui for these, If anyone would like to take a crack at my pics feel free.

none of the scenes you are photographing are really wide in terms of exposure.
why bother HDRing any of these?
