HELP with 430EX II

Hi, i am currently having an issue with it. Whenever i try to start the flash, the pilot light doesn't charge. It simply shows ETTL and the zoom for a split second and blanks out. When i press pilot it just shows ETTL for a split second and blanks out as well.

Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong or how to remedy this?

Not to sound too obvious, but have you tried new batteries? When my flashes will not flash but the lcd is lit up, I pop in a set of new batteries and works like a charm.

Sounds like a battery issue to me.
