I think the shots are great, specially the colors works great for me.
BUT, what kind of shutter speed where you working at? They look a bit blurry to me.

Now I have a question...I have the 580EX right now....I want another flash, should I get the 580EX again, or is a cheaper Canon flash just as good, basically do I need to 580's?

I believe you'd want either the 580EX or 550EX for slave Flash Exposure Control. I have the 420EX as a slave and it doesn't allow that.

I went down to 1/30s to use a little ambient light, to warm the colours. Your right about blur in the first, I think he moved/ motion blur. But the second looks fine. Look at the beard, nice and sharp there.

I'd say this worked quite well. The light looks pretty even to me, and the colors are great. I'd say you could use this settup for very portable studio style lighting, and might even want to look into one or two of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=79005&item=7519398508&tc=photo to go with them. ;)

Yeah, you can use 550's as slaves. These were taken with the 580 as master (on camera) and a 550 as the slave for BG. Set the power manually from the master unit. So you don't even have to operate the slave once its in place.Very handy.

I have to agree, that scuba pic totally cracks me up! :D
I was expecting another child photo and then "that" shows up. So unexpected!

As for the images; I'm not good at this at all... but maybe a reflector on the floor to brighten the shadows. The light seem nice and soft, except those shadows.

I still can't get over that scuba guy! :D :D :D
