I JUST within the past week picked up a 30D after selling my XT months ago...killing me with no camera. Just 2 days ago I picked up a Sigma 17-70...took them out to the park today with my kids. Minimal PP, some slight sharpening...resized and saved for web.

Please C&C, I can take it!

Whats wrong with these shots....I mean seriously? 18 views and not ONE person has anything to say.

I am really wondering if they are decent or not, I am very new to photography and haven't got anyone to critique me except my wife....I think she's biased :) I am working on a old laptop and have no clue if it is close to being right on color or exposure. If they are that bad just tell me where the flaws are, thats the whole point of the Critique Corner correct? It makes things worse for someone when no one says anything...

Patience.... patience.

We're thoughtful bunch here and we need to process our impressions before we put our thoughts into words. Take it as a compliment that you had 18 and counting views already.

If you receive more than 5 responses and 200 hits (not counting mine), consider that an achievement here.

In terms of sharpening, I still think it's oversharpened particularly in the flower -YMMV - since I would prefer the bokeh to be creamier than what I see on the screen. I have a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 and when that thing focuses spot on the subject matter and nothing else, then hardly any sharpening is necessary - in fact, sharpening destroys the bokeh. I don't know about the 17-70 but looks great to me and I look forward to more examples.

both are great. The first one i would like to see just a bit sharper on the center of the flower & the second one is pretty share. I bet it was hard without a camera for that long. I couldn't bare not having mine for even a day.

Thank you very much! Thats the thing with my monitor I guess, I really see almost NO difference when I sharpen a photo...soooo I would assume I tend to over sharpen. I just really wanted to know before I went through more photos from today (233 lol)

One question.... YMMV ? Thanks again

Thank you also. The center of the flower had such a depression in it it was subject to DOF I guess. Partly why I added sharpening to the image was to try and get it back.

It was driving me issane...I have a automotive addiction and gave up my camera for that, HUGE mistake...my photography is going to be my main concern from now on, as it tends to incorporate the whole family into it. Thanks again!
