First attempt at shooting horse races.. it was actually kind of tough.

These were ISO 100, 1/500 or 1/600 seconds, tV. 75-300mm, 300d. If anyone desperately needs the full exif let me know, i'll pull it out.

Any tips or tricks when shooting races like this? Suggestions?

action can be very tough to shoot, you did a good job.

The more depth-of-field you have the easier it is to get shots in focus. Also with a long lens (I assume you're zoomed out to 300mm) you need a faster shutter to handhold.

If you can, put camera on tripod, point at the bend in the track, pre-focus (and then turn off AF) and then you can use slower shutter speeds.

Bump your ISO to 800 to get a smaller aperature (larger f-number) for more depth of field. Also if not using a tripod, you might increase your shutter speed to 1/200 or even 1/400 (using up 1 or 2 of the extra exposure stops you get in going from ISO 100 to ISO 800 which is 3 stops).
