Paul Simon sang about it. Film students shot on it. Now, advocates are signing up to save Kodachrome, or at least its Super 8 motion-picture version, a 1965 technology that Eastman Kodak would very much like to do without....

At some point, Ford quit producing the Model T, even though some people thought it was a great car. For better or for worse, that's part of progress in a capitalist world.

Interesting - I saw an item on the news yesterday about Leica. Apparently, they have made a substantial loss and are trying to get the backing of share holders to start producing consumer level digital cameras and more digital accessories. They want a new share issue, and even then, predict it will be 2oo6, at the earliest before they see any improvement.

Oh, the times they are a-changin' :)

I've been waiting for the past 5 years or so for digital to become mainstream. It is. Film will still continue for a while, but the end is on the horizon. Even motion pictures have gone digital thanks to George Lucas...

I think they still have to get some bugs out of the "convenience" of digital before it completely kills film. Once that's done, its bye bye.

Its like until they make an easy and universally rewritable / recordable 6 hour DVD, there's still a market for VHS.

It was my understanding that Ilford closed their plant in England, but the other one in Switzerland is still going to produce paper.
