Hi,
Am becoming more interested with time-lapse. I was just wondering how the canon 400d would hold up with this..
Thanks

Curious as how you even think 400D is capable of time lapse?

yeah but more slowed down which would be the product of editing not the camera

It is.
Just plug something like this in and set the time interval:

Just connect your camera to your computer and run the EOS Utility that came with the camera, here you can set time intervals to take shots. Then just put all the shots together into a movie. Easy :)

So I wouldn't need the timer posted above?
Thanks for your help guys...
@PhotosGuy thanks for the link.. :)

Load up EOS Utility, connect camera with a USB and have a play.
The only issue is with this method is that the computer must be with the camera so if you want to do stuff in the field you must have a laptop.

Depending on the time required you may have to think about power for the camera esp if you are leaving the camera shooting while doing something else.
A grip (2nd battery) would be an option or getting a power feed to the camera (IIRC there is a way to shoot of the mains without relying on the battery)
Edit - i found it - AC Adapter Kit ACK-DC20 on the following http://www.canon.co.uk/Images/SLR_Range-p8159-c3945-UK-1195138644_tcm14-127385.pdf

Hi,
Yeah there is no way I can hook up a power supply to my camera as I will be constantly traveling on my bike.
I do however already own a grip as you say which allows me to put two batteries in and screw it to the bottom. So I have three batteries already and also a solar charger so I can charge these whenever I want.
So my max time is really the max length of the two batteries which is a shame..
Unless someone can prove me wrong??
thanks for the PDF.. I shall look at it when I fin uni :)

So my max time is really the max length of the two batteries which is a shame. Keep in mind that all batteries aren't created equal. The one I got from Canon is 1390 mAh. One I bought is 1800 mAh & I've seen even higher rated ones. I've shot an all day v-ball tournament with the 1800 mAh battery & didn't need the back-up battery. (This was with the LCD display turned off.)

just checked my 3 batteries and they are 630mAh..
Will have to buy some better ones :) Thanks for the heads up..

Actually you wouldn't if you are shooting some timelaps within the battery life of your computer.
However, if you are remote you may want a light weight device to control your camera triggering. Especially if you are shooting for 5 plus hours. I can recommend the Pclix LT. I have just purchased one and it works very well. www.pclix.com

Not quite sure what you mean by how it would hold up, but if you get plenty of battery power, the power is known to last for weeks on end (not to say it will last for more than two weeks) with the battery grip in place, but then again I don't take as many photos as I would love to

yeah by that I meant how good the photos would be but then I did some more research and found out that depends on the quaility of the camera so am now getting a 7D..
Expensive hobby this eh!!
