I recently went out to a Christian Revival gathering at the University of Washington to see if I can capture any interesting shots.

I am very new to photography and I try to take as many opportunities I can to take pictures. So I do expect alot of critisim. I took these pictures using a Canon 300D with the stock Lens. I am having alot of problem getting crisp shots and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Some of these pictures only look good because of the size, but when you look at it from a larger size, you will see that they are grainy.

Here are a few of the pictures that I thought were decent:

So basically Im just hoping for comments, ways I could have made these shots better, what should I look out for the next time I take these kind of pictures and any other tips.

The rest of the pictures I took and larger versions are found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39588927@N00/sets/399833/

I like number 2 a lot. Good job! On number three, I wish I could see all of her reflection. As for the grain, how are you shooting? Are you in Auto? Do you have the ISO set high? Did you sharpen them in photoshop? More info will make it easier for us to help you out.

To tell you the truth, the reflection on number 3 was an accident, I did not realize it was there. If I did, I would have definately framed it better.

out of the three pictures above, only the first one was taken in Program mode and the rest were taken with auto. My ISO was set at 200 if I am not mistaken. I did do a little level and color adjustments in Photoshop, but thats about it.

EDIT: Sorry I didnt realize there was a critique section to this site.

Number two hit me straight away - I just love that shot. In fact they are all good, but that one is my favourite

#2 is great. Love the lighting and the colouring.

Actually the only one I don't care for is the last one. While it shows emotion the cut off images bother me. It looks incomplete. Perhaps if it had been a closer shot of the men. I don't think it would have worked at all to back out for a full lenght shot. I do like the landscape composition of that one. The lighting and color on all is terrific and draws me right into them.

Number 2 is far and away my favorite. Nice job.

And welcome to the forums. I've found this to be a great place to learn.

Thanks for all the replies.

I see what you mean when you talk about number four not being composed right. I really wanted to capture the emotion of the two without getting in their way at the time. I do see that I have alot of unused space on that picture. Thank you for the critisism, I will look out for this the next time I head out.

I do not know the guy in #2, but after he saw me taking the picture of him, I found out he was a proffessor at the school. I would definately send it to him if I could get his info.
