Emily,
I like the first image, but the sheep should be positioned more to right instead of center. That would make the image more "active" and give the sheep some space to walk into. Shooting at a lower angle and giving the path some more depth might have also improved the shot.
The second image has too many distractions - the dog, the red bin. A quote on composition that I recently read: "Every element in a photograph should be there, and where it is, for a reason."
Also, the sheep is looking out of frame; generally it is better to get your subjects looking into the frame, or off to the side of the camera. (Not always, and rules are made to be broken, but I find it another distraction here. My eyes go to the sheep's face, then look to where he or she is looking - at the edge of the frame, then nowhere.)
