dSLR newbie here. Just picked up a Digital Rebel XT and noticed some lovely smudges on the lens that simply would not come out with a microfiber cloth. Ran out and bought a camera cleaning kit, read directions, and...

Wound up with a small amount of lens cleaning fluid underneath the 18-55mm kit lens. Searched all over and unable to find out exactly what to do to rectify this. Not sure if it will evaporate on its own, if the lens must be returned, etc...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you mean that you got some cleaning solution on the inside of the front element? That doesn't sound good, but if it is not too much, I doubt that it will affect image quality.

Yes, that's what I meant. It seems to have gotten underneath the front element.

The lens cleaning solution should evaporate on its own. At worst it might leave a bit of a film if it is not pure alcohol. If you can't see it then it should be fine. Next time use less cleaning solution.

Thanks for the replies. Lesson well learned. Just glad it was the kit lens and not an expensive one :)
