Last time I visited this spot, there was an ordinary grade crossing. The overpass is new. Location is Bagley Road in Berea, Ohio.

These tracks are pretty busy. I caught this Southbound from Cleveland, Ohio the other day during my visit to that city:

The second (slave) engine unit had the marking "RLCX", a railroad with which I am not familiar.

Just found it in Google - RLCX is "Railroad Equipment Leasing Company".

Good work, Tom. There are all kinds of 'Brand-X' engines running around. Usually they're absolutely ugly. That one doesn't look too bad.

It's ugly - gray with faded red lettering, and a bit more smoke from the diesel than I'd like. Probably an old rejected Chessie engine.

With most rairoads short on power today, they are probably leasing anything they can get their hands on.

I've always had a thing for trains! Great capture.

That's for certain - Norfolk Southern here is leasing a number of colorful Burlington Northern - Santa Fe engines, which are much more pleasing to the eye than the boring NS engines.

I live not more than 10 miles from that overpass. The reason they decided to finally put that overpass is because of the fact that the Berea intersection is one of the busiest for train crossings (kept causing traffic congestions). In anycase, this picture has given some inspiration for me to visit the area and take pictures of my own. Thanks for sharing.

I grew up a few miles from there myself - Parma to be exact. I spent a great majority of my life in that area, having only recently moved to Tennessee. I miss the friends and some of the places, but I sure don't miss those snowy winters. :)

I was a service brat, so I spent my time moving all over the country. Raised mainly in New England, so the snow in Ohio isn't much of a factor for me. Too bad I didn't have a nice digital camera growing up, I would have loved taking pictures while living in each area. The pictures I have taken are now lost somewhere in old shoeboxes and the negatives long forgotten.

Anyways, currently live in Olmsted Township, so whenever you are longing to see pictures of the places you grew up in, give me a holler.

Olmsted Twp is nice, as is Olmsted Falls. Sort-of country, but a stone's throw from town. I lived in Middleburg Hts for a few years, and one of my neighbors from there now lives in Olmsted Twp. Haven't seen them in years.

But I guess I'm starting to ramble here. I'd better just hit the reply button.

Yeah, that's what we liked about the township...it was country atmosphere, but only a stone's throw from town and a couple minutes from downtown. We bought a house on 10 acres and now, there's development going on all around the area. Anyways, there certainly is alot of photo opportunity here...we normally have about 10 deers roaming on the property; there's a golden eagle nesting in one of my trees and I've been trying so hard to get as close as possible to take a photo.

Lots of deer in Ohio - y'all need more hunting! :)

Downtown is picturesque as well. I have several 8X10's on the wall that I shot 3 years ago on film when I was up visiting. Unfortunately, my scanning capabilities are rather lacking for images so I can't post any of them.

A few of the shots probably don't mean much to people that didn't experience the flats as an industrial area like I did as a kid. The old railroad jack-knife bridges, abandoned warehouses and such - I remember some of that stuff being a bit more thriving back in the early 1970's.

I remember when the Terminal Tower was the only really tall building on Public Square. Now, there's 3 big ones plus that new Federal building. Wonderful city in spite of its backwards politics.

I agree on the backwards politics of our city. :D

Anyways, I was able to take progressive shots of the Society building when they were building it about 16 years ago (it is now the biggest building in the city).

As for the abundance of deers in my area, believe it or not, I took one out with a highpower rifle while sitting in my kitchen. Just opened up the window and took a shot; the wife and kids were all screaming at me for making such a loud noise. Now, I am only allowed to shoot wildlife with my camera, and I am happy at it.
