I took this photo in downtown LA. I used an xti and a 10-22mm f5.6 @30sec.
Not much PP. Any response is appreciated :D
This is only my second time shooting at night - I hope I nailed it

Good shot!
It's difficult to know just when to take a night shot in order to get the natural light and the artificial lights to be somewhat in balance with one another. I think you got it nailed.

Congratulations!

I really like it. Is it me, or does it seem to be tilted to the Right just slightly?

Looks really nice, the colors are fantastic. Next time I would try shooting at a more narrow aperture like f/8-f/11 and see what happens.

It might be, I'll correct it. I thought it was pretty straight, but then again I was editing at 3am lol...

Will do. Thank you

^Costco here I come!

Oh man. Not to dis on Costco. I love 'em. But with a shot like this I wouldn't settle for anything less than perfection. I STRONGLY suggest taking a look at MPIX (link) (http://mpix.com/) for a large print. This photo would be killer on the metallic paper. The city would pop straight off the page!

Truth be told, I actually did a little comparison study on Costco to MPIX, and the quality was not even comparable. MPIX wins hands down. (sans price; which wasn't that much more, TBH)

I chose a BW barn photo and sent a PNG to Costco. The Costco version had tons of ink banding and even had a tinge of pink on the mid tones. I did both 'color correction' and non 'color corrected. I even tried two separate Costco's with the exact same results. Costco is fine for 4x6 or 5x7's. But I will never go to them for larger prints, period.

Then I took the same file and sent it to MPIX and chose the metallic paper. The damn photograph practically burned my hands because it was so HOT!! :P The tones were flawless and none of the issues I saw with Costco were present. To be honest, I really didn't know my photo could look that good.

Trust me, you will NOT be sorry.

And for the record, I do not work for MPIX, just stating my experiences with them. :)

Haha damn thanks for the tip. To be honest I used costco once and the prints turned out decent however I have nothing to compare it to so I'll definitely check out MPIX.

Great shot mate and the exposure is just spot on.

Personally, and I'm going against the grain here, I find it a bit busy.

I want the buildings, sky and reflection to take my interest, but I find that I'm drawn to the sculpture on the left which does nothing for me really. Sans the sculpture, I'd throw it up on my wall for sure.

Interesting. Now that you mention it, the sculpture and equally sculptural Disney Concert Hall are by themselves a composition. How about a diptych then?

Small point (pun not intended): I'd clone out that dot of light above the second skyscraper from the left.

There are certain things about this scene that create the illusion of 3-D. Don't let anyone convince you that any of these particular features are superfluous - they are not.

I am speaking about the rows of well lighted trees that are in a row in front of the darker trees for example. Another is the sculpture, and another is the way in which some buildings are partially behind other buildings, etc.

Well the water line is, but the buildings are vertical.

very nice shot! Where is the exact location where you shot this from? Cross streets?

Thanks for the comments everyone, I appreciate every one of them.

@Sabu: To be honest I don't know the exact location lol. I was sleeping in the car while my friend was driving. I woke up and we were in front of the spot. I'll ask my friend tomorrow and I'll PM you and post its the location.
Though it is close to the Walt Disney Concert Hall (you can see it in the background).

What is the squiggly line on the left? It's distracting to me. Otherwise a fantastic shot and I love the colors and light!

Probably a plane.

That is a perefct example of how natural and artifical lighting balances with each other. That photo is a keeper. If I were you, frame that badboy!!!

The "squiggly" was a helicopter.

I've shot a similar shot a few years ago! http://www.flickr.com/photos/ianjayflanigan/3051695066/

Your looks good, looks a bit hazy though, probably just the glow from the lights though
