I have gone into the menu and turned it off. It still illuminates every time I'm taking a picture inside.
I'm new to this camera, and this is the one thing I can't figure out. Anyone else with the Canon S230 have this issue or can help?
Thanks in Advance! :)

Scott,
You will find that this is your Auto Focus (AF) assist lamp to help your camera focus properly in low light situations. I'm not sure if the 230 has the ability to manual focus but if you can enable MF then it won't fire each time you take a shot.

AndreyD, you nailed it! That's what it was. Thanks!
I thought the red eye thing was just a pre-flash. I didn't know it was a beam.
Jamie, Thanks for your help too. The reason I wanted it off was to take pictures of my bird. The light freaked him out. :)
