You're right! That is too weird.

It doesn't show up in the index or the site map. It looks like a coverup to me.....I think they're getting ready to deny having made the 20D. You sure can't prove it by their website.

The 20D is not on their camera's page either ! All that is listed for the Digital EOS are the EOS-1Ds Mark II, EOS-1D Mark II, EOS Digital Rebel XT and EOS Digital Rebel. Somethings up!

i guess they decided that the battery grip and lost image problem was too much to handle and pulled the plug.

does that mean our 20D's are worth more now! :-)

Still gone. Probably as simple as someone accidentally deleting a critical row from their web-site's database. But heck, conspiracy theories are much more interesting ...

That is only the US site, so - no worries (and no hopes of a 30D next week either)...

Called Canon. They said they are updating the page, most likely because they are going to do free repairs of the battery grip (per the service rep I talked to).

Scared me to death. I just dropped $1500 on this thing and had my heart in my throat.

No kidding, just got mine last Friday.

I got my battery grip at the same time, would hate to have turn that in so soon.

I better go check my camera bag to see if my 10D and 1DmkII are still there. No telling if they're going to be pulling those cameras off the web pages, too, and make my babies vanish just like that into thin air. Puff!

Y'all aren't going to believe this.... I called Canon's 800 number (basically sales), and the first fellow I talked to said that the 20D was no longer being manufactured. Sensing that this was BS, I asked to talk to someone more in the know about the web site. I then talked to someone in sales/marketing who seemed to be a little more on the ball. He confirmed that the 20D portion of the site is temporarily down for something - he didn't know what - and that the 20D is definitely not being pulled from the line.

I then asked person 2 about the 20D grip problems. He did not have any information, but gave me the direct line to the factory service center in New Jersey. I called there and talked to someone who told me that there are "modifications" that they can make to the BG-E2 grip for the 20D, but he didn't know details. I asked to be transferred to someone who knows the details. He said that the techs couldn't spend any time on the phones, so I asked for the technician's manager. The manager wasn't answering his phone, but I got a first name and direct-dial number. His name is Lou, and his number is (732) 521-7065. Maybe if a bunch of us call him about the grip problems we can get a resolution.

The press release says the 20Da will be joining the 20D, not replacing it, so . . .

The press release says the 20Da will be joining the 20D, not replacing it, so . . .

.....so they took the page down to add the second model (though I would think that they'd be able to update a page rather instantly, by designing it off-line and then swapping files on the server).

OK folks, you have to get a grip here. Wait, no, don't get that grip.

I'll bet the 20D will be featured in the new season of The 4400. It will be back.

RobbTC
1st of June 2005 (Wed), 08:46
The live preview mode should be a nice new feature for night shots and long exposures.

Guess they are working on an English version of this site:

The 20D is back on the Canon USA site now. The film SLRs and the DSLRs now sit at five models each (ignoring the high-speed and eye-focus variants).

Just a guess, but this might be in preparation for new offerings - coming soon to a Web site near you!

Have Fun,

That is no surprise - the 10D was withdrawn from marketing with the introduction of the 20D.

I see that 20D is now back on their site, but is it just me, or did it not have the little red "New" splat on the image before? I could have swore that the only one that had "New" on it was the Rebel XT.

Well considering the Nion 12.4mpixel is less than $5k Canon needs to give us something in that price range. The 1DMkII is awesome, but really should be more than 8.x mpixels. With the magazine I shoot for, they really like 12+ Mpixels for two page spreads, which I can't do with the 20D or 1D :(

The red "New" disappeared when the Rebel XT was released, reappeared yesterday, and is gone again today.
