Hi Pekka. I am the auhor of JAlbum, a free generator of static web photo albums. I've made a skin for JAlbum that looks pretty much like your Exhibit Engine look. You can view an album example at http://www.datadosen.se/jalbum/samples/Exhibit

Is it ok for me to publish this skin? I give you credit for the great layout and link to your software? Our two softwares complement each other so feel this is just a good thing that will appreciated by JAlbum users and will bring some more people to discover the advantages of a server side solution like Exhibit Engine. I don't mind if you link back to JAlbum for users who prefer a static web album solution for putting albums onto CDs or non-php powered web sites etc.

Regards
/David

Hello Dave,

After taking a look at JAlbum, I can see where this would compliment EE very well. I love using EE for on- line exhibits, but, I also need to distribute the same images to clients on CD-ROM, this will do the trick.

Thanks,
Dennis

David,

I appreciate your enthusiasm and skill of coding (I've always wanted to do Java) but after careful thinking I have to say no to your suggestion. There are several reasons behind this decision all of which I will not go though here, but two main reasons are that your solution merely copies EE looks without using EE database data and other is that I have already coded an "Export Exhibition to Disk" feature which will read the current database and export EE pages to html files on disk with userdefined settings (quite fast too: takes about 20 seconds to build relinked html pages for 165 photos).

I'm sure you understand and I wish all the best to your Jalbum project,

Take care,

Pekka

Pekka,

I was not aware of this option, how do I access it?
It is something I can really use.
You have included everything.
Thanks,

Dennis

Pekka,
I respect your decision. Just feel you are missing good advertising for your product and that JAlbum users miss a good looking skin: Some JAlbum users actually would be better of with a server-side solution and as JAlbum has about 500 downloads / day and 50000 unique visitors per month, many people discover it and some would then in turn discover Exhibit Engine (I don't mind). I will now have to rework the graphics so that they are no longer a rip of yours for the benefit of nobody actually :-(

It's great that you have a "Save to disc" option, but still I think, most people find JAlbum easier to get started with (just install using ordinary installer, then one drag and drop and a button press to have an album generated), therefore I don't feel that we compete but complement each other.

Can you please reply to me, david@datadosen.se with a more thorough background to your decision? Maybe you just want me to remove references to Exhibit Engine as you might not want people to mistake these two programs.

I too am interested in this feature. When / how will it be available?

Cheers
