So my good friend and I went out last night to try and capture some of his fire poi. Here's what I got. This was the first time I shot anything like this and I had no external light other than his pois. C&C most appreciated.

I tried to get both short and long exposures. The short exposures to have more detail and focus on my friend, and the long exposures for patterns and more focus on the pois.

Here's a PS my friend did on his own. really drives the point home haha.

Is there anything i could've done better? Like I said before, the fire pois were the only light source, and the short exposures had 1600 iso, with a shutter of about 1/100th and F1.4. All these were shot with a 50mm 1.4.

For the long exposures i dialed down the iso, increased the F-stop and had 3-6 second exposures. I had to open the aperture up a little bit and increase iso as the fuel starts to run out.

I like the long exposure ones. The first one is very good but I not such a fan of selective color. I'm thinking the last one would be better cropped because there's not much going on in the right hand side. I would say all in all a very good use of time getting the shots. Nice job.

love the concept and composition. the details on the short exposures are wonderful and the long exposures create a very cool effect.

well done!
