Skyport connection methods

I'm looking at getting a Skyport kit and am wondering if there are pros and cons to the flash connection methods.

I see some people swear by the use of a hotshoe mount, but I see this as an extra piece in the chain that can fail.

Others say that using the PC socket is the way to go. That seems the more reliable option to me.

I plan on using a 580 II and possibly a Vivitar 285hv with an adapter to use its propietry PC cable.

Is one way to connect the flashes any better than the other?

For the 580EX II, your options, in order from least to most relialbe, are as follows:
Worst: Standard PC connector
Better: Hotshoe adapter
Best: Screwlock PC connector

If I had those two flash units, I would get a screwlock PC cord for the 580EX II and a Vivitar cord for the Vivitar. Both are available from http://flashzebra.com
