Hi all,
1D MkII has just arrived. Batteries are on charge but just had a quick play with it plugged into the mains.
What about that continous shooting rate ? Uzi anyone ? :)
Right, more later.....
Cheers

Neil,
Right six numbers ? Nah, right sixteen numbers, they are under the bit that says "Mastercard". :D
Right all, thanks for the good wishes.
Weather has been terrible all day, didn't get out to shoot. Therefore, I've been messing about in the house.
First impressions (comparing to 10D) are a very solid camera. OK, the grip is built in rather than added on, but it is solid.
Where is the pop up flash ? Where is the "Sports" mode ? :)
Using two buttons or button and dial at the same time is different, but can easily see why.
Love the Custom Function to swap over what the two dials do in Manual mode. I've moved Tv to rear dial and Av to over the shutter dial. Switch off the rear dial and no worries in the studio now. (I would quite often accidently roll the shutter speed on the 10D throwing the exposures out).
Speed. Everything is faster and by a lot. Menus, writing to CF, focusing etc. We have done the Uzi mode but even single shot feels fast. Shutter activation is a dream, smoother than the 10D but more accurate.
Image coming out are wonderful. Straight back into RAW mode for me and I'm already seeing sharper images for my standard test shots. And the noise at ISO800 is well, not very much.
Oh, all my lenses seem to have shrunk. This is great for the Sigma 12-24 (can you say WIDER?) but not sure about the others. My 28-135 doesn't "feel" right now. But the 50mm f1.4 "feels" much better.
All in all, I love it. I'm going to hopefully get some proper shots tomorrow but until then I'm playing with remote capture over firewire. Canon software if quite poor but does show the speed. Certainly perfect for studio product use tethered. :) (one main reason for the upgrade). Trip to BreezeSystems for their capture software I think.
Right, off to play again. But first I'm going to read through the custom functions bit of the manual again and see if I can understand anymore of the words ;)
Cheers

I hate this segregation of cameras. :(
I'm doomed to consumer plastic for the rest of my academic career.

But is it worth paying 2 1/2 times the price of the 20D.
I think so. :) Some don't. :(

I would have picked it up myself except that it throws all my lens ideas for a toss :D. Just for that one reason.....

Congrats on the new camera. I've had mine for about a month and am still getting used to it. It's quite a machine. First time I tried the hi speed shooting, the cat looked up, jumped off the chair and took off for the far yonder. Now when he sees me holding it he runs. Should I want to take his picture I guess I will have to revert to using my Rebel!

Right, first shots are up: on this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=595042#post595042)
Love the extra width of the x1.3 sensor, love the increased dynamic range, especially love the improved low light focusing, just love it. I've almost got used to using two buttons for everything.
Cheers
