Hi All
I just got the 20d and after setting it up I found that I cannot download using CameraWindow 20D. When I press the "Start to download images" button I get a message saying:
"The camera is busy and cannot respond. If the LCD is on turn it off. Click Retry to try again or click Cancelto disconnect the camera"
The LCD is off and I can see the camera using other software ie: the EOS Viewer Utility. But this is not as efficient as CameraWindow.
I cannot figure out why it tells me that the camera is busy... help please!
Cheers

BTW, Communication is set to "Normal" and I have updated the firmware to 2.0.0
I also have a G6 and that works well

I've never plugged the camera into the computer so I can't help with that, no doubt someone will be able to help you. I always use a card reader, it's faster, more reliable, and doesn't use camera batteries.

I agree with Tim ...
It's highly recommended to get yourself a card reader. The problems you're having with the computer ability to "see" the camera will disappear with a card reader.
Plus, as Tim pointed out, it'll be faster, too.

There is nothing wrong with transferring images from the camera instead of using a card reader, since on occassion you might find it more convenient. The only downsides are that the transfer is slower than using a card reader and it drains the battery on your camera.
However, using CamerWindow is not one of the ways recommended for transferring your images as per the EOS Digital Software manual that caqme with your 20D.
To transfer direct from the camera you are supposed to close the window that pops up when you first connect your camera by clicking the "Close" button. Once you do that, open up EOS Viewer Utility and follow the instructions on page W-18 of the EOS Digital Software Manual. To make your life easier, make sure that View -> folder Tree is checked in EOS Viewer Utility.
I hope this gets you started!

Thanks Bob (and other kind people) for such a prompt response
Yes, I know how to do it with EOS Viewer Utility, but it is very rough... and it ofers no advantage over the card reader (yes, I got one) since you have to do the sorting manualy. I like the idea of having my pictures sorted automaticaly by date (like I can do with the much less expensve G6) this automation, IMHO, more than compensates for the slower downloading..
Anyway, it seems that there is no solution but to put up with clumsy software...
Love the 20d cannot wait for the wekendo to give it a good workout...
Cheers and thanks

Using the utility is very easy. I just highlight all the pictures and copy them to a folder on my computer. Takes a few seconds (well depending on the number of pics), but the process is quick and simple. What are you trying to do in the Utility that's making it "rough" as you say.

Hi d'homme
I was trying to get the automatic generation of albums based on the days the pictures were taken. This feature is good to locate photographic sessions if you are taken lots of pictures, for example. The other feature I got in the G6 software is downloading only the new pictures (from the previous download), which helps when you are using two computers (ie, notebook and PC) as each computer keeps its own record and you do not need to worry about deleting the wrong photos.
For now, I resolved this by creating sundirectories named 0506, 0507 and so on at least I'll get the months right...
I also got an iriver unit of 40gigs so I can download photos without having to carry my notebook when travelling, it seems to work fine with the CF card reader and I created the same directorry structure as in my computers, to make it easier to transfer data from device to device...
Humans should not have to do all this, that's why we invented software ;-)

Try this free product for organizing your images, it works pretty well:

I bet this product will do it. Picasa (for PC's) is like iPhoto (for Macs). Google bought it and is giving it away free.

I have a Mac and iPhoto works very well with downloading images from the camera, (except for RAW, which needs the card-reader).
