Its in the next version of windows - hard to say when that will appear. I know it will be a whle before I get it. Probably with the next computer I get after it comes out. But its a good idea (finally!). I hate having to open PS everytime I want to skim RAW images.

Being that I have DRebel that uses the.crw extension, I was able to use the .thm hack to preview thumbnails in explorer.

I had no idea that you could not already do this. I use XP for some stuff, but my Mac for imaging and I can view my RAW files without a secondary application.
This will give more options for ways to organize and manage images.

Longhorn is at least a year away. If memory serves me correctly, Longhorn graphics will be able to take much better advantage of the specialised graphics-processors that come on modern graphics cards. And since Microsoft have announced they will support RAW, it's probable the card manufacturers will add RAW decoding/processing support to their cards.
But what next - a Microsoft RAW standard?

Great! I installed this last night and it works fine! I too use Picasa 2 (selecting groups of pics) and Irfanview (batch resizing) as well as PSE3 (Main Image catalogue) but I still use Explorer to move my files around between processed and unprocessed folders so the ability to actrually see the RAWs is a bonus - many thanks for the link.

What is the inconveniance in running a program? You are running a program when you view the files in explorer. Why wouldn't you want to be using a program that is specifically made for previewing images? Is it that it is too hard to click a different icon? I realize that everone has a different workflow, but why is so crucial that explorer be able to do everything? Besides, this appears to be using the camera manufacturers software to show the previews anyway.

Ah. So there is an XP version too. I wonder if it will use the internal jpeg for the little thumbnails, otherwise it's going to be slow. I always have thumbnails turned off for image folders anyway, so not sure how much benefit this will be. Serious photogaphers will always have another viewer anyway, but maybe it will be useful to have something more integrated.
